“Song of Myself” Final Project

Walt Whitman’s “Song of Myself” is a celebration of self and nature and the connections between every single living thing in the universe. As we find ourselves finishing this poem, I want you to think about what it means to you in the world that you live in today.

You have several options for this project. You may:

Create an ABC poster for “Song of Myself”
Each letter must be present and must be accompanied by an illustration and a description of its significance to the poem.
Rewrite and modernize a section of “Song of Myself”
Make it your own. Make it modern but stay true to the themes and voice of the poem.
Put it on a poster and illustrate it accordingly.
Personal Celebration of Self
Create a personal celebration of self using a medium that you can present to the class.
Include a one page summary that details the significance of the components you have chosen to create your piece.
You may use: paint, photography, 3-D representation, film, poetry, etc.
