My review:
The first thing I loved about this book was that it was the exact opposite of what I expected it would be. In the very beginning, we find out that Sora ISN'T an all-magical being, but a mere human, raised to be a distraction in order to keep the true princess safe and sound. It's a bizarre twist and certainly refreshing in a world of born-to-be warriors and Mary Sues.
The world building in this story was lovely -- stunning visuals. I felt as though I was right there with Sora on her journey.
I could have done without the romance, but that's just an odd quirk for me. I'm extraordinarily picky about romance, and besides that, Sora would have been badass enough on her own.
I've never really been introduced to Japanese mythology before, so this book was a new and exciting adventure for me.
I think Sora is a great role model for young girls, and I would encourage young teens who are looking for a strong, reliable and RELATABLE female character to pick this one up.
The cover is gorgeous, too!
Very nicely done!
